Balcoon-Scapes

In occasion of Milan Design Week 2026, Patricia Urquiola and Duravit presented Balcoon-Scapes.
The installation takes the form of a field of totems, a series of elements shaped from the geometries and materials of the Balcoon collection. Drawing on its formal language, where round and square volumes, layered surfaces and warm clay tones interact, Balcoon-Scapes extends the vocabulary of the collection, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Duravit, into space. Washbasins, toilets and furniture are reinterpreted and repositioned within a new spatial composition, introducing a sense of freedom that shifts them away from pure function and lets materials and surfaces relate more openly, carrying their own stories. The pieces are presented not as products, but as volumes emerging within the space, arranged across a stepped platform that defines rhythm and perspective. Repetition and variation generate a composition that is both balanced and dynamic. The cantilever, central to the Balcoon collection, defined by two geometric forms – the circle above the square – shifts from a structural device to a spatial principle, introducing a sense of suspension. Freed from their conventional life, toilets and washbasins become totemic elements, redefined beyond their usual function. Each variants carries a distinct material expression, with shifts in surface and texture.
