L’incoronazione di Poppea

The scenography for this classical opera by Monteverdi, staged in Oviedo in 2010, revolves around a mechanical set. The global inspiration was to give a contemporary representation of a play written 400 years ago, that tells a story set 2000 years ago. A single stage allows actors to move vertically and horizontally. Part of the platform is mobile, with a ramp moving up and down during the performance. All the set pieces are suspended above the stage, appearing and disappearing. Each scene is acted though an interaction with various objects, functioning as co-stars to the plot.
