The new upholstered sofa system designed by Patricia Urquiola for Cassina stems from a clear intuition, to make the softness of its padding immediately tangible. This idea translates into a floor-sofa that embodies a large contemporary quilt. Seats and backrests are made up of generous volumes defined by deep stitching that creates a recognisable graphic rhythm in an interplay of raised and recessed forms that conveys an immediate sense of visual balance.
Ardys’s soft padding is made of polyurethane foam containing a percentage of recycled polyols and is covered by an internal lining in recycled polyester wadding. Thanks to the absence of traditional moulding methods, Ardys can be easily disassembled; fitted onto a metal frame, the materials can be separated at the end of the product’s life, facilitating recycling with a circular design approach.
Modularity takes centre stage in Ardys, a fluid system available as a sofa, armchair and pouf, with end, corner and central elements based on a square matrix. Connected through a custom-designed snap-on joint, each module can be moved, separated or recomposed over time, offering great freedom of configuration. Completing the system, the Ardys coffee tables in glossy lacquered cement create a textural counterpoint to the softness of the upholstery, adding a compact architectural presence.
